PENSION REFORM RESEARCH
The failure of the State of Illinois to properly fund the retirement systems of its employees goes back to at least 1916. This was identified and documented in a report titled “Illinois Public Pension Reform. What’s Past Is Prologue” prepared by Eric Madiar, Chief Legal Counsel for Illinois Senate President John Cullerton. The report appeared in the Summer 2014 issue of the Illinois Public Employee Relations Report which is published by the IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law and the University of Illinois School of Labor and Employment. This is a well researched report regarding the history of the State’s failure to properly fund the retirement systems of its employees and its recent effort to take away from retirees the benefits earned by them during their service to the public.
