RETIREMENT HEIST September 2012 The book titled Retirement Heist, published in 2011, is a compelling book that explains how over the last 20-40 years, many corporations have been taking large amounts of money from the retirement accounts intended for and earned by their employees. They did this in order to show improved earnings and to provide increased compensation and retirement benefits for their top executives. Many of the corporations that have done this are represented in the membership of the Commercial Club of Chicago and the Civic Federation of Chicago. As you may know, groups like these have led the attack on public pensions and exercised significant influence on the Legislators, the Governor, and the public over the last three years with their public campaigning and misrepresentations of the public pension issues.
